MIT Media Lab

Sept. 2012 - June 2014

I was a graduate researcher with the MIT Center for Civic Media and affiliate researcher with the Macro Connections Lab.

MIT Civic was my home base, and the lab focuses on media creation and consumption as transformative experiences. Highlights:

  • Instructing a grad-level course on codesign methodology, in which experts and audience members are equal partners in designing social impact products and services. I advised the CMS.862 group working with NeighborMedia, a citizen journalism platform in Cambridge, MA.

  • Coordinating participants across five projects as the first U.S. hackathon response to Hurricane Sandy hackathon

  • Producing storytelling materials for our lab’s signature projects

  • Contributing to an ethnographic research group examining alternative economic infrastructures

  • Facilitating a civic art intervention that engaged residents to reach out to the owners of a decaying building in downtown Cambridge. The City has since seized the property to build affordable and transitional housing

Along with two Media Lab graduate researchers from Viral Comms and Changing Places, we created this pressure-sensor-twist on hopscotch.
